Principal's Letter

Kelly Weldon PrincipalAs we embark on this school year and prepare to open the doors of Ocean Township High School for its 48th year, I find myself reflecting on our history, our traditions, and our legacy.  Maybe it is the enormity of changes we are implementing in 2013-2014.  Maybe it is the tremendous progress that is visible all over this campus both inside and out.  But when I walk our halls, classrooms, and fields, I am filled with incredible appreciation for what we have been able to accomplish as a team.  Students, teachers, coaches, parents, community supporters, custodians, grounds crew, board members, and countless others have dedicated themselves to a unified vision and invested much time and energy into making that vision a reality.

The Home of the Spartans is thriving academically.  Block scheduling will revolutionize the learning environment and provide students with opportunities never before possible.  Our athletic facilities have not seen upgrades of this magnitude since the school opened in 1966.  And we have just begun; there is still much work to be done.  But what I realize is that we could have never come this far if it had not been for the sweat and toil of those that came before us.

Their legacies are what paved the way for such monumental improvements today.  We must remember those that built the great academic reputation of Ocean Township High School, those that put Big Red Country on the map and made us all proud to be a Spartan.  We must pick up their torch and create an even better school for those that come after us.

I have never been more proud to be part of this Spartan team - the tremendous faculty, this incredible school community, and this great township.  In Ocean, we are never satisfied with the status quo.  We are never content with good enough.  We are most critical of ourselves, and we look for innovative ways to improve.  I encourage each of you to stand with me.  Let’s build our legacy together - one mindful of our traditions yet rich with growth and progress.

Best wishes for a fruitful school year, Spartans!
